CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – “We continue our commitment to provide guidance and direction to statistical development activities and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the region,” opened Assistant Regional Director Leonila G. Cajarte, NEDA-X during the 1st Quarter Joint Meeting of the RDC-X Regional Statistics Committee (RSC-X) and Regional Committee on Sustainable Development Goals (RCSDG-X) on 24 February 2022, via web conferencing.
In said virtual meeting, the Guidelines on setting the numerical regional targets for the SDGs were presented, as well as, sustained strategies and initiatives for the localization of the identified Regional Development Plan-Results Matrix (RDP-RM)/SDG indicators in the region. Concerns and challenges of the provinces, highly-urbanized cities (HUCs), and municipalities in the region in the localization activities are to be prioritized particularly the access and availability of local data. Subsequently, a plan of action will be pursued to overcome identified issues in realizing the SDGs.
Director Myrna Clara B. Asuncion, Director III of the NEDA Policy and Planning Group and Program Coordinator of the Subcommittee on Sustainable Development Goals Secretariat also participated in the meeting. Her group apprised the body on the RDP-RM/SDG localization efforts, such as the identification of the provincial, municipality, city, and Core Regional SDG indicators, and other national initiatives.
Results of the PSA’s Annual Labor Statistics 2018-2022, which depict the magnitude of child labor in the region, were also presented in the meeting. Said results will be shared with children stakeholders for consideration in their planning activities, such as the Regional Council for the Welfare of Children X.
Other important agenda items included key updates on the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) by the Philippine Statistics Authority-Regional Office X (PSA-X) and Department of Interior and Local Government-Regional Office 10 (DILG-10). The said technology-based system aims to collect, process, and validate necessary disaggregated data to be utilized for development planning, program implementation, and monitoring and evaluation. Further, members signified to have access to annual regional and provincial data on employed persons by industry in time for the formulation of the regional and provincial development plans. PSA-X also apprised the members of key updates on Civil Registration and Philippine Identification System (Philsys) Services.
