CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY- The Northern Mindanao Regional Project Monitoring Committee (RPMC-X) represented by the Region X offices of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, the Department of Budget and Management, and the National Economic and Development Authority, together with the implementing agencies, inspected high impact projects in Cagayan de Oro City and the Provinces of Misamis Oriental and Bukidnon.
During its 2nd Quarter 2021 field monitoring visits from 10 to 12 May 2021, the team visited seven bypass and diversion roads, namely, the Malaybalay-Gingoog Road, Misamis Oriental-Bukidnon-Agusan del Norte Road, Claveria – Balingoan Bypass Road, Roads Leveraging Linkages of Industry and Trade (ROLL-IT) in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental connecting to the 3,000 hectare PHIVIDEC Industrial Estates, Puerto-Claveria By-Pass Road, PHIVIDEC-Alae Road, and the Agora Road leading to the Cagayan de Oro Port.
Said roads are already passable with ongoing completion of gaps and missing links. The completion of these road networks will enhance mobility of people, goods, and services in the region and its adjoining areas.
The team also monitored the Cagayan de Oro Civic/Convention Center of the Department of Public Works and Highways-Regional Office X (DPWH-X), Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Programs (SETUP) of the Department of Science and Technology-Regional Office X (DOST-X) in Malitbog, Bukidnon, three infrastructure projects implemented by the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines – Claveria Campus, and the Communal Irrigation System in Mat-i, Claveria, Misamis Oriental implemented by the National Irrigation Administration-Regional Office X.
The Cagayan de Oro Civic/Convention Center is the first ever world-class trade and convention center in the region, which aims to accommodate international, national, and local trade exhibits, seminars, and events. It has a total area of 13,496 sq.m. with seating capacity of 7,700. As of the first quarter 2021, the project was almost complete and currently undergoing minor improvement works as indicated in the DPWH-X punchlist report. It is expected to be completed by June 2021 and will be turned-over to the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority for operation and management.
Two of the successful SETUP projects of the DOST-Bukidnon Provincial Office visited were the JRED Coffee Processing Facility and Belinda’s Turmeric Products located in Barangays Poblacion and Kiabo in Malitbog, Bukidnon, respectively. Both were assisted by the DOST-X through technology transfer and equipment upgrading to improve the quality of their products, services, and operations. The coffee and turmeric products are currently distributed through various establishments in the region, such as grocery stores, malls, and pasalubong centers.
The Cagayan de Oro Port Expansion Project by the Philippine Ports Authority-Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro was likewise inspected. The expansion project supports the region’s position as the transshipment hub linking Northern Mindanao to the rest of the country.
