CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY- The Northern Mindanao Regional Development Council (RDC-X) through its special Committee, the Regional Gender and Development Committee (RGADC-X) mounted its first Virtual Gender and Development GAD Quiz Bee on 31 March 2021 as part of the 2021 National Women’s Month celebration.
“This quiz bee underscores the importance of having knowledge and understanding of Gender and Development concepts, issues and concerns, so that we, the participants and the audience, can contribute towards realizing the overall theme We Make Change Work for Women,” said Dr. Jesus Antonio G. Derijie, DVM, the newly installed RGADC-X Chairperson, during his opening message.
The quiz bee proper had three (easy, average, difficult) rounds with 33 teams from the academe, LGUs, and government agencies. Ultimately, five emerged victorious, namely, the Land Transportation Office-Regional Office X (4th runner-up); Bukidnon State University (3rd runner-up); Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Regional Office X (2nd runner-up); Provincial Planning and Development Office of Misamis Occidental (1st runner-up); and the Department of Education Division of Ozamiz City, Champion.
Dr. Chona R. Echavez, RGADC-X Co-chairperson, congratulated the winners, thanked the participants, and lauded the organizers for making the very first Virtual GAD Quiz Bee fun and educational. “We hope that this activity is not the end of our celebration, but rather a salvo as we continue to advocate for equality, equity, and empowerment for women and men,” added Dr. Echavez.
The celebration of the Women’s Month in the Philippines came into being through Proclamation No. 227 (s. 1988), “Providing for the observance of the Month of March as Women’s Role in History Month.” This is further supported by Republic Act No. 6949 (s. 1990), declaring March 8 of every year as National Women’s Day.
