CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Through the inclusive collaboration of various national and local government agencies, industry movers, entrepreneurs, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), R&D Institutes (RDIs), government funding agencies (GFAs), and innovation partners in the region, Northern Mindanao staged a two-day celebration of the National Innovation Day through Filipinnovation: Unlocked, the Northern Mindanao Regional Innovation Program and Exhibit from 21 to 22 April 2022 at the SM City Uptown, this city.
The NEDA-X, as the RDC-X Technical Secretariat and Vice Chair, served as the Lead Convenor, with the RDC-X Regional Research Development and Innovation Committee chaired by the Department of Science and Technology-X, the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation Inc. as Co-conveners, and partners from the business and private sector and other key government agencies and HEIs.
The event showcased the region’s best innovation programs/projects/activities through a series of presentations and demonstrations, as well as, stories of resilience of MSMEs and startups, and booth demonstrations on new technologies for commercialization, fabrication laboratories, and food innovation centers by exhibitors from the HEIs and local entrepreneurs.
Signaling the region’s intent to reinforce a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among thought-leaders, policy-makers, and program developers, the program also featured Innovation Talks on strategic foresight and futures thinking, and strengthening the entrepreneurship mindset by guest speakers Mr. James Redden of RTI Innovation Advisors and Ms. Diane Eustaquio, Agripreneur and Program Lead for Incubation of Niche, Emerging Technologies, and Services.
There were also panel discussions among local experts and participants composed of members of the RDC-X and RRDIC-X; students from HEIs, secondary education schools, and technical-vocational institutions; private sector and industries in Region X, and online participants from different parts of the country as the event was also live-streamed on Facebook.
Partners/stakeholders from the regional inclusive innovation community, who played vital roles in uplifting and sustaining the innovation ecosystem in Northern Mindanao, were also recognized during the event.
Said activity is a nationwide celebration pursuant to Republic Act 11293 or the Philippine Innovation Act, which declares April 21 of every year as the National Innovation Day to promote and highlight government and private sector initiatives on innovation.
