CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY- Moving forward from the economic fallout brought by the pandemic, NEDA-X Regional Director Mylah Faye Aurora B. Cariño, CESO III, conveyed key strategies for recovery during the Regional Association of Government Communicators (RAGCOM-X) Virtual Information Caravan, 15 July 2021.
As the head of the Northern Mindanao Task Force for COVID-19’s Recovery Cluster and Vice-Chairperson of the Northern Mindanao RDRRMC’s Recovery and Rehabilitation Committee, NEDA-X spearheads and coordinates regional rehabilitation and recovery efforts. The agency is tasked to prompt actions in providing services to reduce COVID-19 mortality and morbidity, restarting social and economic activities, and steering good governance.
“Our end goal is to restore socioeconomic conditions in Northern Mindanao with higher level of resilience against health emergencies,” explained Director Cariño.
Attaining the targets of reducing socioeconomic contraction, decreasing unemployment and underemployment rates, ensuring business and service continuity, and sustaining safe and sufficient transportation requires a whole-of-society approach. Active and well-coordinated response from all task groups and stakeholders will lead to solid recovery for the region, she emphasized.
With sustained response (prevention, detection, isolation, treatment, and reintegration) and the full implementation of the vaccination program, Northern Mindanao’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) is hoped to expand by 7.1 – 8.1 percent in 2022, and sustain this growth in 2023 and beyond.
The agency head highlighted resilient sectors namely, food manufacturing, online and ICT-related services, agriculture, energy generation, and personal protective equipment and hand sanitation production. She called for repurposing and adapting to current market needs among establishments, capital infusions to keep the economy afloat, upskilling and reskilling of the workforce, and upgrading of ICT facilities in line with the global digitalization, and other recovery mechanisms.
In the same virtual meet, the Philippine Statistics Authority-Regional Office X provided updates on the Step-2 regional implementation of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), while the Commission on Population and Development-Regional Office X shared that they are conducting door-to-door provision of supply of contraceptives and home service on responsible parenthood and family planning.
