Director Leon M. Dacanay, Jr. of the National Economic and Development Authority Regional Office 10 (NEDA-10), also the Vice-Chair of the Regional Development Council, guested on March 1, 2017 in Cagayan de Oro City’s weekly TV Program “Ang Cagayan de Oro… Kagahapon, Karon ug Ugma,” (Cagayan de Oro Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow) and discussed the Metropolitanization of the city by 2025 as reflected in the Philippine and Regional Development Plan, 2017-2022.
As a highly urbanized city, Cagayan de Oro shall conglomerate with contiguous local government units, engage with cooperative urban services, attract investments (especially at the PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate) and ensure a conducive business environment to bring about metropolitanization. Potential services on power, solid waste management, flood control, water and sewerage, transportation, human resource development and land use planning shall also be considered.
With the increasing population, availability of high-level services and the strategic location of the city as the gateway and transshipment hub of Northern Mindanao, Metro Cagayan de Oro is perceived to become the fourth Metropolitan Center by 2025 following Metro Manila, Metro Cebu and Metro Davao.
With Director Dacanay were Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar S. Moreno, private/business sector representative, Mr. Jaime Rafael U. Paguio and the Local Economic and Investment Promotion Officer, Ms. Aileen S. Escobar. (Jeffy John Q. Tomarong, PFPD, NEDA-X)
